Invisible Character: copy blank text

An invisible character is a Unicode character that takes up room in a text field but draws nothing you can see. Three well-known ones are Hangul Filler (U+3164), Braille Pattern Blank (U+2800) and Zero Width Space (U+200B). Tap one to copy it, or build blank text of any length.

The button writes the exact character to your clipboard. Paste it into a text box and the cursor moves, but nothing appears.

Invisible username and blank name

Type the name you want. You get versions with invisible characters at the ends or between letters, and blank-only names of the same length. Each shows how many characters it uses so you can compare it with your game’s limit.

Counted as Unicode characters. Some games count in other units, so check the limit in the game itself.

Type a name above and press Make variants. Your variants appear here.

Test log

What was tested, and what was not

The first three columns were measured by us on Oct 9, 2026. The app columns stay on a dash until we try that pair on a real device and record the date and app version. A dash means not tested, never “fails”.

0 of 240 character and app pairs tested so far. Browser column: Chrome 151 on Linux; the clipboard was read back and compared byte for byte.

Browser field: pasted into a text box and read back unchanged. Keeps through trim(): JavaScript’s String.trim() leaves it in place. Saved by the server: WordPress text sanitising on this site returns it unchanged.

Questions

Short answers

What is an invisible character?

It is a Unicode code point that has a place in text but no visible mark. Some are spaces of different widths, some are zero-width format characters, and some, like Hangul Filler U+3164 and Braille Pattern Blank U+2800, are letters or symbols whose picture is empty.

Is a blank character the same as a space?

No. A space is a character in the Unicode category Zs. Hangul Filler is category Lo (a letter) and Braille Pattern Blank is category So (a symbol), so code that trims or collapses whitespace treats them differently from a space. The vault shows the category of every character.

Why does the character show as a box on some screens?

The font on that device has no picture for the code point, so it draws a placeholder box. Fillers and zero-width characters depend on the font and the app, which is why the table on this page separates what was measured from what is not tested yet.

Which invisible character works on Discord, WhatsApp or in a game?

It depends on the app and its version, and apps change their filters. This site marks a result only after a real try on a device, with the date. A dash in the table means the pair has not been tested, not that it fails.
